CHED needs P2.6-M for random drug testing in W. Visayas
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) needs around P2.6 million to be able to implement the random drug testing in all higher education institutions in Western Visayas.
According to CHED education program specialist Dr. Rex Casiple, their regional office has already requested the needed amount from the CHED head office and is just waiting for the approval so the random drug testing could be conducted.
He said that 30 students selected randomly from each of the 136 higher education institutions in Western Visayas, including state universities and colleges, community colleges and private universities, would be subjected to drug testing.
The random drug testing is targeted to be completed before the end of December 2009.
Dr. Casiple recalled that in 2007 when they conducted random drug testing also in the higher institutions in the region, four of the 450 students tested turned out positive and were subjected for counseling with their parents. (PNA)
