DA-6 leads in implementation of P38M Diversified projects
The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Western Visayas got flying colors in the recent assessment conducted by World Bank on P38 million Diversified projects for the entire region. The high ratings will pave way for the department to get additional grants from World Bank.
DA-6 Regional Technical Director for Planning, Finance and Administration Dr.Joyce Wendam said the region is the leading implementer of the Diversified projects. The Diversified projects include bagsakan centers, hauling trucks, farm-to-market roads and packing house.
The evaluation placing DA-6 on top was contained in the recent Result Monitoring Evaluation System rendered by Thon Mercader, consultant of the program. The project implementation reached to 80 percent completion with nearly three months left before the project termination.
Wendam said the implementation of the P38 million Diversified projects begun in 2005. It is a counter parting scheme. Of the P38 million, the local government units which are recipients of the program has an over-all counterpart of P20 million. The P18 million is a grant from the World Bank. The clienteles of the program are local government units as well as the private sectors.
The implementation of the program will commence on June 2009. Of the recipients, the San Enrique Multi-purpose Cooperative faired high from among the recipients. In fact, they are already in the “third pass.” It means they are already in the validation stage.
The San Enrique Multi-Purpose Cooperative is also included in the search for public sector areas initiated by the Regional Development Council, said Wendam.
The high performance of DA-6 has a multiplier effect. The region is already being considered in the implementation of the proposed regional climate adaptation change program. It is only one of the up coming programs which gives the department the privilege to be part of, said Wendam.
