Water connection for San Isidro relocation site gets LWUA funding
The relocatees at the San Isidro, Jaro relocation site will soon enjoy potable drinking water after the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) has extended P2 million for the installation of water pipelines from the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD).
The check for the installation of the water pipelines was handed over by LWUA Administrator Prospero Pichay to MIWD board chair Celso Javelosa last Tuesday, March 3. The check was given in the presence of Mayor Jerry Treñas and Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr.
The turning over of check was supposed to be made in last Tuesday’s visit of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo but it was not included in the final program.
Pichay said LWUA is ready to assist the city government in its plan to develop the relocation site. It was the chief executive and Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr .who asked for the assistance as relocatees depended on the water coming from deep wells.
The installation of water pipelines from the MIWD to the relocation site will greatly help some 1,000 relocatees in San Isidro. The relocatees at the San Isidro resettlement project are families whose houses were affected by the Iloilo Flood Control project and families whose houses were destroyed by Typhoon Frank.
Pichay added that they are looking for alternative sources of water for the city like one of the rivers in Dumangas and deep wells. The city is progressing rapidly and the problem on water supply must be dealt with accordingly.
The city is among the cities in the country which have problems in potable water supply. The problem also exists in Baguio. There are some 700 municipalities in the country suffering from the same problem, said Pichay.
