City to turn off all plaza lights in support of Earth Hour
Iloilo City will join millions of Filipinos all over the Philippines in the Earth Hour campaign slated March 28 that aims to call for action on global warming.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the city’s participation would be the switching off of all plaza lights starting 8:30 pm and will last for an hour.
The city has six plazas situated in each of its six districts.
A letter signed by Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes and World Wildlife Fund–Philippines CEO and Vice-chairman Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan to Mayor Treñas said that the Earth Hour is a "major call to action for every individual, government and business to act and ensure a sustainable future."
“Earth Hour is a message of hope and action. We can fight global warming if we all act together,” they said.
Aside from the switching off of street lights, the city government is also encouraging other sectors to join in the symbolic activity by turning off their signage lights or some of their facilities as their operations or business will allow.
The community is likewise encouraged to switch off lights in their households. (PNA)
