Two cops under probe for alleged mauling
Two policemen have been disarmed and restricted to quarters for allegedly mauling a rookie police officer inside a sub-station Monday.
The incident comes two weeks after six police officers were caught drinking inside the Ilog police station in Negros Occidental.
City police director, Sr. Supt. Melvin Mongcal told The News Today yesterday that he has already ordered Police Officer 3 Lito Rodelas and Police Officer 1 Rodel Mesada to surrender their firearms, confine themselves to the Jaro precinct, and submit themselves to an investigation to be conducted by the Iloilo City Police Office.
Mesada and Rodelas are alleged to have manhandled Police Officer 1 Danilo Beso Monday night inside a police sub-station in Brgy. Bito-on in Jaro district. Mesada and Rodelas are assigned with the said sub-station, while Beso is assigned with another sub-station at Brgy. Montinola. Both sub-stations are under the Jaro precinct.
Jaro precinct chief of police, Sr. Insp. Hari Decena said that the off-duty Beso went to the sub-station to pick up his batchmate, Police Officer 1 Vincent Decena Monday evening. While Beso was waiting for his batchmate, Mesada and Rodelas arrived at the sub-station, wearing civilian clothes and reeking of liquor.
Decena said that Mesada and Rodelas must have confronted Beso about the latter’s uniform or ‘some small infraction.’ It was then that the two must have punched Beso, Decena said.
Decena said that his precinct is already conducting a separate investigation into the incident, and has instructed Police Officer 3 Angelito Parreño, head of the investigation division, to make a special report.
Following the incident involving three of his subordinates, Decena said that he has reiterated his order against drinking and the bringing of women inside the sub-station, and the need to be courteous.
