Quota International inaugurates new Leganes Resource Center for the Deaf, R6 (LRCD)
Quota has provided transportation allowance of the children (also assisted by the club to club fund); uniform allowance for the teachers and the students; nutrition filled meals through the parents’ livelihood program
The day started with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Hon. Adolf Jaen, Mayor of the Municipality of Leganes, DG Lin B. Liboro, District 41 Governor, Quota International, Inc. and Mr. Earlwayne Tan of Davies Paints, Inc. doing the honors.
Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Carlo Noquez of the Archdiocese of Jaro in the new building with honored guests from the Municipality of Leganes DepEd officials, friends from other professional and socio-civic organizations, friends and family from our LRCD and SPED-ISEC community and fellow Iloilo Quotarians in attendance.
Rev. Fr. Carlo Noquez’ main message in his homily is : “Love Grows in Sharing,” - very present in the week long celebration and very much aligned to QI’s motto of “ We Share”, and the organization’s international theme, “The Gift of Quota”.
The blessing of the new LRCD building followed the mass. The new LRCD serving region 6 is testimony to Quota International of Iloilo’s commitment in its journey to looking after the educational and nutritional welfare of the hearing impaired in their area.
The inauguration of the new Leganes Resource Center for the Deaf poses not only a challenge of presence but also that of continuing passion for the work they helped establish. As the oldest club of professional women worldwide and Quota International of Iloilo’s 32 years of existence, LRCD on its 10th anniversary will continue to provide much needed services for the hearing impaired as stated in an updated Memorandum of Agreement signed key officials in the tripartite agreement namely: Hon. Adolf Jaen, Mayor of the Municipality of Leganes, President Marjorie Locsin of Quota International of Iloilo and Lolita Camarig , Social Welfare Officer of the Municipality of Leganes, witnessed by District
41 Governor Lin B. Liboro, Quota International, Inc.
LRCD services have evolved through the years and currently, Quota Iloilo provides for the allowance of a teacher aide who is deaf to handle the pre-school hearing-impaired children. The club has provided for many years, and eventually the Department of Education (DepEd) had accepted the salary slot of the grade school teacher to the hearing impaired.
Quota International of Iloilo will continue to develop and support the HI grade school until such time the municipality and its DepEd District are ready to absorb the grade school level. Quota Iloilo will continue with the day care/pre-school of the HI in LRCD, as well as maintain and develop LRCD as a resource center. Since school year 2007 to date, Quota has provided transportation allowance of the children (also assisted by the club to club fund); uniform allowance for the teachers and the students; nutrition filled meals through the parents’ livelihood program.
Many activities had been cancelled or postponed due to the calamitous effects brought by Typhoon Frank but with the new LRCD building, Iloilo Quotarians move forward with energized spirit meeting challenges head on in its continuing journey of serving the hearing impaired and disadvantaged women and children.
