The affair with curiosity
When I was a kid, I considered myself the curios one. I always wanted something untried, something different and the lure of the strange incessantly appeals to me. Sometimes it doesn't lead me to the most happy endings. I don't think there's something wrong with it, I guess its how I learn to discover things. Nowadays, as I get in the age and world of conformity,I am losing that child in me; my affair with curiosity. With this, I would like to dwell on understanding the nature and favor of being curious.
Curiosity is an innate behavior of man. It is a natural emotion that comes from our interest, desire, observation and wonder that grows from the newborn child until it reaches the old age. Albert Einstein attest to the importance of this habit when he implied; Never stop questioning... curiosity has its own reason for existing, never lose a holy curiosity.
What makes this trait so important? When it is rather too easy to be casual, passive and go with the flow. I recognize, that in our present society, we have media influence, conventional educations and controlling government that acts as a brain dynamo for us. The present world we revolve in makes it easier for the rest of humankind to just follow the program and commune with the system. This picture of a structured society defines being normal is what everybody else's doing. Consequently, what is left to question and what benefits the curious?
Be an inquirer: make your mind work, people who asks questions allow their faculty to be active. Just like the rest of the muscles of our body, our mind needs to exercise to achieve its full potential. It is a holistic approach to the mind and body and be full of energy to give essence in our lives. Moreover, studies have shown that an active mind has less percentage of diseases such as Alzheimers. As questions strengthen the mind, so is labor with the body.
Be open to endless possibilities: scientists and inventors have their motivation based on strong curiosity. Discovering something new becomes a great fulfillment. Learning only is possible when we are liberated from restrictions. Diversity and variety makes our world an engaging opportunity to grant our minds and act as a sponge, allowing new information all the time. Thus, knowledge takes in. I always believe life has so much to offer and it only comes if we have the open arms to welcome it.
Be different: there's nothing boring than being mundane and predictable. What makes people draw to excitement is learning something current, creative and interesting. Cecil Beaton once said; be daring, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary. Surely, this idea makes a lot of difference.
The 21st century falls off fast with citizens of easy and fast gratification who loses the enthusiasm to find hard earned knowledge. At present, people submit and become followers of this so-called realm on how to do's manipulated by the few.
I encourage you and me to be curious once again, defy the ideology and awaken the precious child inside ourselves that once sees the magical world full of adventure and learning. Continue to ask questions relentlessly, the desire to develop ideas, it is freedom of the mind and carry on creating and exploring.
Let us return to our curious affairs. As we search and find answers,we begin to move forward... this makes our lives more meaningful as we discover things like a child again in our own way.
