CHED reminds schools to observe simple graduation rites
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has reminded school administrators in Western Visayas to observe simple but meaningful graduation rites as part of the austerity measure being undertaken in the light of the global economic crisis.
CHED Regional Office 6 Chief of the Education Program Specialist Dr. Rex Casiple said that per Memorandum Order No. 05, Series of 2009, they are reminding all the 136 higher education institutions in the region to observe simple graduation rites and to refrain from organizing spendthrift programs for their graduating students.
The schools are also enjoined to refrain from requiring students to pay for contributions and/or purchase expensive memorabilia and to submit non-academic projects as graduation requirement.
Dr. Casiple noted that this graduation time, there will be around 26,000 students in Western Visayas who will be finishing their higher education courses with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing still having the most number of graduates.
The other courses considered to be in demand and expected to have a huge population of graduating students this March or April are the Teacher Education and the Business Education. (PNA)
