WVRAA to feature ‘Palaro Tiangge’
ROXAS CITY – A pasalubong center that will include food stalls will be established at the Villareal Stadium here in time with the 2009 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet from March 15 to 20.
This was confirmed by Department of Education’s (DepEd) – Capiz Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Eveleth Gamboa during a press conference about the preparations for the upcoming regional sports competition.
“It will be called “Palaro Tiangge” that will sell souvenir items, among others,” Gamboa said.
For his part, Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco, Sr. noted that the province’s hosting of WVRAA will be an opportunity to promote Capiz to incoming delegates, guests and athletes.
“It’s good that tourists will be coming,” stressed Tanco.
Among the expected visitors for the WVRAA include DepEd Undersecretary Ramon Bacani, provincial governors as well as some city mayors in the region.
Senator Mar Roxas is also expected to grace the opening ceremonies as guest speaker.
Thousands of onlookers are also expected to witness the WVRAA opening rites on March 15 at the Villareal Stadium here that will stage playground demonstrations and fireworks display, among others
The prestigious sporting event will gather more than 1,000 athletes and delegates from participating provinces in the region. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
