Monthly water bacteriology test considered in Jordan
To protect their concessionaires, the Jordan Water District will continue to conduct a water bacteriology laboratory examination in the water they are providing. The recent water bacteriology analysis result showed negative presence of E. coli bacteria.
A source said the general manager of Jordan Water District wants to have their water checked by competent laboratory to ensure the safety of the people. The water analysis will be made every month. The result of the water bacteriology test would determine on whether the Uswag Foundation piggery in Barangay Igbantang Sta.Teresa, Jordan has complied with the conditions set forth on its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC).
In January, the water supply provided by the water district was contaminated with E. Coli bacteria. The joint team of the town of Jordan and environment officials pinpointed the Uswag Foundation piggery as the source of the pollutants based on their inspection. The management was given 30 days to rectify their operation and meet the environmental terms relative to their operation by a task force.
The task force found that there is irregularity in the piggery’s operations and its continuing disposal of water waste in the source of water posed health and environmental hazards.
One of the springs, which is the source of water of the water district affected by the unauthorized discharge of waster water from the piggery is the Buluangan Spring. Water samples taken from the spring showed there is a presence of 10 colony forming units (CFU) in one ml of water. The contamination affected Barangay Ravina.
