Sabornay: Legal consultant, yes; legal officer, no
BACOLOD CITY -- “If there would be another chance to serve the people of Bacolod, why not?” Such statement came from Atty. Vicente Sabornay, former Bacolod City Legal Officer, and now sits as President of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco).
But Sabornay was very frank in saying that he wanted to be only a legal consultant, not City Legal Officer to replace the late Atty. Allan Zamora.
“I’ve been in government service for so long and as a Bacoleño who am I to refuse if I am considered (to be a legal consultant),” he added.
In issuing such statement, Sabornay clarified that he has no conflict with his former boss, former Mayor Luzviminda Valdez, Leonardia’s election rival, wherein he served as City Legal Officer during her time.
Sabornay also denied reports that there were private conversations between him and Mayor Leonardia regarding the matter.
“I was amazed when I heard reports that I will be the next legal officer, I don’t know that,” he added.
There were reports also that an offer of P10 million was presented to Sabornay to accept the position, only to defend the city and Mayor Leonardia of all the cases filed against his administration but he also denied this.
The name of Sabornay is very popular after Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced that the “search is on” for the next City Legal Officer.
Leonardia denied reports about getting Sabornay to replace Atty. Zamora but he assured that he has a list of names but he does not want to announce it publicly because he also understands that others would be hurt if not chosen.
His number one consideration for the next CLO is competence, next is sense of public service and dedication to work.
