Spotlight on Banate
Politics is heating up in the fourth district of Iloilo. A mole told Bull's Eye that last week two separate parades were held in celebration of the International Women's Month in the town of Banate. The first was conducted by women groups identified with Gov. Niel, the second by the women groups identified with Cong. Ferj. The difference between the two activities, however, was that Mayor Insik Cabangal gave permit to the former while the latter was not given permit. The women identified with Gov. Niel had the privilege to use the municipal covered gym while the those under Cong. Ferj had no choice but proceed to a nearby resort after power was cut off from the gym while they were about to have a program. Masadya!
Rolly is back!
Multi-awarded former Dumangas Mayor Rolly Distura is back after a long vacation in the United States. He came back to his hometown to start the preparations for the 2010 election where he will again run for the mayoral post against the incumbent Mayor Onal Golez. Te, ex-vice mayor Rose Doromal diin ka na?
Nobody present
It's sad that no public officials from the city and province of Iloilo nor representatives from the electric cooperatives attended the hearing of the Energy Regulatory Commission on the P1.14 per kwh power rate hike of National Power Corporation (NPC) in Cebu City last March 19. On the contrary the province of Negros Occidental and city of Bacolod including the Ceneco was well represented in the said hearing. It seems that Iloilo officials are not bothered at all by the NPC's power rate increase. Negrenses are more concerned even if their power rate runs only to more or less 6 pesos per kilowatt hour. Maybe Iloilo City officials are not at all concerned because PECO, the city's sole power distributor, gets only 15 megawatt power from NPC. For city officials paying a power rate of P12 to P14 per kilowatt hour is okay, so the P1.14 per kwh increase by NPC won't really matter. Pobre man ang mga taga siyudad sang Iloilo.
