City clean and green tilt launched
The city government launched the Search for the Cleanest and Greenest Barangay, Plaza and District at yesterday in an effort to prepare the citizenry for the regional contest come October and to instill proper solid waste management practices to all residents.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said that he has approved grand prizes for the winners in order to motivate all contestants and to provide them with cash that may help them launch any project that may benefit their respective areas.
The mayor has allotted some P200,000 for prizes alone aside from other cash prizes and prizes in kind that will be donated by private organizations and corporations.
Prizes include P30,000 for the champion, P20,000 for second placer and P15,000 for third placer in each of the three categories.
The over-all champion for the district level will also receive P1 million worth of project while the over-all champion for the barangay level will be awarded P500,000 worth of project.
The elimination round will be done from April 1stto June 30, 2009 while the final contest will be held on July 17 to August 31, 2009.
Criteria for judging include ecological solid waste management (ESWM) training for concerned personnel; mobilization of citizenry; media campaign; presence of segregation and collection facilities, materials recovery facility (MRF) for biodegradable waste, MRF for non-biodegradable waste, 10-year ESWM plan, waste reduction program, and other considerations like composting practices and youth involvement.
