Bills for 100 new high schools await PGMA signature
ROXAS CITY– Education remains the highest priority of the House of Representatives, according to Speaker Prospero Nograles.
Nograles in the House’s news, disclosed that some 100 new high schools in the country will soon be created should President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo approve the local bills.
He stressed that even as the country counts every strand of economic options to shield the Filipino family from the ravages of the global recession, education remains the highest priority.
He said that 100 local bills establishing the same number of new national high schools nationwide are waiting for the President’s signature.
Of the proposed 100 high schools to be created, two will be located in Western Visayas, namely in Negros Occidental and Antique.
The other proposed schools are to be located in Surigao del Sur, Zamboanga del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Leyte, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Oriental Mindoro, Bulacan, Nueva Viscaya, La Union, Agusan del Sur, South Cotabato, Kalinga, Bohol, Mandauyong City, Ifugao, Zamboanga Siibugay, Nueva Ecija, Dinagat Islands, Misamis Occidental, Mountain Province, Benguet, Batangas, Tarlac, Davao City, Masbate, Lanao del Sur, City of Cagayan de Oro and Aurora.
Meanwhile, Rep. Del de Guzman, who chairs the House Committee on Basic Education, pointed out that the building of the new schools would be part of the infrastructure development for education.
De Guzman said that through the construction of new school buildings, it would generate jobs and spur productivity among down stream industries supplying building materials and related enterprises.
