DOST gab tackles meal management and food handling
BACOLOD CITY -- In celebration of the National Women’s Month, Gender and Development (GAD) chair City Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue has invited DOST nutritionist-dieticians Josefina Gonzales, Paula Huelar and Regina Pagaspas to discuss basic nutrition, meal planning, food buying and storage and food costing and control.
The two-day activity will start today, March 25, until tomorrow at the Bacolod Women Center.
Experts from the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), an attached service institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), will discuss meal management and food handling especially on meal planning and food costing.
Aside from lectures and workshops on meal management and food handling, DOST will also present FNRI profile, the services it offers and the food technologies ready for commercialization.
On the second day, there will be a cooking demonstration to encourage the participants to serve nutritious and delectable snacks.
Under City Ordinance No. 423 Series of 2006 or the GAD Code authored by Batapa-Sigue, Article VI Section 1 mandates the city government shall encourage the active participation of women in ensuring food safety and undertaking food safety programs in the community.
