City acquires 17 new dumptrucks
BACOLOD CITY -- The City’s Department of Public Services (DPS) has purchased 17 new dumptrucks worth P9.5 million to further boost waste collection efficiency.
Sanggunian Panglungsod Committee on Environment chair Councilor Greg Gasataya said that the additional dumptrucks can be used as supplement to the existing ones.
“At present, the city has a total of 24 dumptrucks but some of which are already non-operational,” he added.
He also said that his committee met with the barangay officials, establishment owners and market occupants so that the city can make final assessments and evaluations in as far as the implementation of “No segregation, No collection” policy by April 1.
Gasataya assured that it is already all systems go for the implementation of the “no segregation, no collection” policy.
“Based on its pilot implementation in nine barangays under the parish of St. Fatima recently, the policy effective,” he said.
A meeting was also conducted with the parish priest Father Ernie Larrida, where it was revealed that many households have been abiding with the program.
While most households were complying, there are still residents who remain resilient, said Gasataya.
Meanwhile, the city ordered that the disposal of garbage will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. so that the city can easily identify those who are being defiant against the law
He also said that the city government will be able to comply with safe closure and rehabilitation of the old dump site to give way for the construction of a sanitary land fill in Barangay Felisa.
