Capiz turns 108 years old
ROXAS CITY – The civil or provincial government of Capiz turns 108 years old on April 15, 2009.
The provincial government here headed by Gov. Victor Tanco has readied a set of activities for the commemoration of the event that will kick off April 13 with the theme “Pagpasanyog sang Kultura sang Maayo nga Panghimanwa Padulong sa Tayuyon nga Katin-aran.”
The Provincial Tourism Office, which is spearheading the commemorative activities, said the event will focus on governance and its recent achievements and will also feature the awarding of outstanding Capiznons in a program called “Dungog Capiznon.”
A civic parade dubbed “Tagbuanay” will signal the start of the three-day commemorative activities.
A fireworks exhibition featuring pyrotechnics teams from China and South Korea will be part of the opening day activities.
April 15 also marks the death anniversary of Manuel Acuña Roxas, the first President of the Philippine Republic and is considered as Capiz’s most illustrious son. A thanksgiving mass and wreath-laying will highlight the tribute to the former president.
The Capiz Provincial Press Bureau said other commemorative activities for the provincial charter day include a crafts and horticultural fair, fiesta Capiznon, inauguration and launching of projects, interactive exhibit, crafts and food fair, Tunog Capiznon, free services, passporting and dental services, feeding for streetchildren, and Hugyaw Capiz.
A civil government was estbalished in Capiz on April 15, 1901 by virtue of Act 115.
There will be a preliminary bike tour of Capiz April 12 to usher in the event. (PIA/Publicity & Promotions Committee)
