Ceneco employees back Sabornay presidency
BACOLOD CITY -- After a series of consultation and meeting with its members, the group called Ceneco Union of Rational Employees (CURE) came out into the open and declared their full support to Atty. Vicente Sabornay and his fellow officers.
Ben Tundag, President of CURE, said as advised by one of the officials from Malacañang they need to identify the legitimate board officials and support it.
In an assembly of rank-and-file employees yesterday during their flag raising ceremony, the employees through their representative read their position on the issue and declared their full support to Sabornay.
Other three board of directors from Sabornay’s wing were also present. New Ceneco President, Engr. Edward Gasambelo was also there but understands the situation and disregards the announcement made.
“It is the war of the board of directors but the scenario wherein there are two presidents or set officers affects the operation of Ceneco,” Tundag added.
He also cited that there was an instance lately where they cannot pay their obligations because of the freezing of accounts by their accredited depository banks but it was resolved by Gasambelo’s group.
Sabornay on the other hand said the support of the employees is a clear manifestation that the rank-and-file employees do not want a ‘mob rule’, disregarding the rules regulations and other pertinent rules pertaining to cooperative.
“As of now, we still have the majority or 4 out 8 since one district was vacated,” he added.
Immediately, Sabornay called up a board meeting and passed a resolution requesting National Electricfication Administration (NEA), which has a supervisory power over all electric coops, to immediately resolve the issues.
“If NEA will only allow what some politicians lobbied not to intervene on this what so called ‘conflict’ it is not healthy on the part of the consumers,” Sabornay added.
With this development, Sabornay said that Gasambelo is threatening the employees that they will face charges.
Tundag welcomes any charges if that is true saying that they stand only on what they think is right.
Gasambelo could not be reached for his comment as of press time regarding the recent announcement by the employees.
The conflict between Gasambelo and Sabornay started when there was a reorganization of board officials but it was not recognized by the latter because of lack of quorum.
The issue is still pending for resolution in NEA but Gasambelo said the agency stands that it should be resolved by the board.
