Reasons why students prefer SJS
I’d like to share BEA PATRICIA LATAQUIN’s views why students love and prefer to study in St. Joseph Joseph School (Iloilo), Inc.
A school, to some people, may be a scary loathsome place. Its corridors and lockers are some what haunted to them. The classrooms are like dungeons, and the teachers are like the fire- breathing dragons we’ve read about in books. Yes, to some, school is synonymous to prison.
It’s a bit weird for them to compare a place as glorious as school to a dungeon, much less a prison. Would a place that helps you learn and earn friends be even close to a prison? What could they have possibly gone through for them to even think that? I never understand people like these. Why can’t they appreciate school like most of us do?
I’m guessing they haven’t experienced what it’s like to wake up at six in the morning excited to arrive in your second home. And if they did, I’m sure they would change their minds about the school-prison opinion. And what school is more suited for the job than ours?
St. Joseph School, I’m sure, can prove to even the most rebelling teenagers how the school can be twice as fun as some computer café and shopping mall. We actually have fun in school and learn something at the time. Hey! It’s hitting two birds with one stone! How amazing is that?
I would list down all particular reasons on why we all love and cherish our alma mater, but it would probably take too long and eat up the entire forest! So if I may, I will only list down, general reasons on which I’m sure all of you will agree on.
Reason 1: Teachers are like friends
This is not because we don’t respect them or because we don’t feel the need to see their authority. But because, they make us feel as ease with them. From their corny jokes about the lesson to the snooze fest discussions they have, we appreciate all the effort they’ve done and return the favor by telling them our jokes, which inevitable make them smile as well. It’s just a good time when we “hang” with our teachers.
Reason 2: Learning does not equal to boring
Sure, some schools torture their students with some awkward lessons that make students shiver with fear, but not here. It’s so comfortable, we actually get to speak up during class and share our opinions. We get a chance to explain our views and we don’t get looked down on. In the classroom, it’s like everything is equal. Regardless of age, everyone learns something from the other. Which makes it completely UN-boring.
Reason 3: Everyone gets a fair chance
Sometimes, students are shy to showcase their amazing talents to the rest of the human race. But when teachers see the potential in them, they encourage them. They give them confidence. They teach them to enjoy what they can offer to their fellow students and even if they turn our really bad at it, they tell them to have fun, because that is what matters.
Reason 4: We appreciate each others company
In some schools, peer pressure and cliques conquer the students. Not around here. Everyone hangs out with everyone else. Nobody is excluded or left behind. Everyone is friends with everyone. Like a big tree, the trunk as the school and the leaves and branches as the students and faculty.
Reason 5: We are a family
Just like the tree comment I’ve written earlier, when those leaves graduate and fall from the tree, they don’t float away, they fall slowly to the ground, just under the branches from which it has grown. And even if the wind decides to blow them to a completely different direction, they always remember the place they called home. The tree they’ve learned to be themselves. Get my metaphor? In this school, we are family. Not like family, but are family. And will always be. Even as we graduate to college and earn our degrees, we can never forget the memories we’ve carved into our alma mater (and desks!)
I am writing this now so full of assurance from every bone in my body, because to me, this school is like my home. And we all belong here. Regardless of all our social differences and inequalities, I am sure, so completely sure, we will never forget St. Joseph School. And St. Joseph School will never forget us.
If these reasons are enough, be a part of the Josephian community. Be one of us!
