Ceneco's 34th General Annual Assembly a success
BACOLOD CITY -- Around 863 member-consumers of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) from District 1 to District 10 attended Ceneco's 34th Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA) called by Ceneco Board President Edward Gasambelo last Saturday.
The invited keynote speaker in the assembly was Presidential Deputy Spokesman Anthony Golez who extended his full support to the cooperative that survives for three decades.
Gasambelo said that inspite of several controversies it encountered, Ceneco's track record has shown un upward trend.
He emphasized that due to financial health, the consumers are able to pay Ceneco on time and availed of the prompt payment discount or PPD.
"Last year, we initiated a contract with KEPCO-SALCON to supply us with an interim source of power. Our contract has been approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission or ERC. So we are threfore assured of an interim supply of energy in the event of unwanted power shortage in the future," Gasambelo stressed.
On the other hand, Ceneco OIC General Manager Atty. Enrique Tabino thanked the consumers for the support they extended in the success of Ceneco.
"This year marks 34 years of dynamism and changing with the times. Ceneco has not only been surviving but has been constantly progressing, maintaining its category A plus status and considered to be one of the most successful cooperatives in the country." Tabino said.
He said that the General Assembly is a testimony of their partnership with the consumers and hence, it is strong, reselient, and evolving.
"The controversies and prerdicaments that we have faced is a force that brought out the best in all of us. These challenges have strengthened the management and its workers to continue to lead through noble service,” Tabino emphasized.
He asked the support of all employees and give a stern warning that he will use the full force of the law if they will not abide with the policy of the management. He challenges disgruntled employees like some officers of the Ceneco Union of Rationae employees or CURE to resign and run for the Board of Directors if they want to be a part of the policy making body of the Ceneco.
We shall respect the Board because they were elected by their respective districts," Tabino said. He said that the very existence of Ceneco depends on the vigilance of its consumer-members.
Meanwhile, CENECO Board Treasurer Roberto Montelibano gave his treasurer's report during Saturday's assembly. He said that the energy revenue during the year 2008 decreased by 2.3 percent compared to 2007 while the cost of power also decreased by 1.25 percent.
"As a result there is a slight change in the Cooperative gross profit. Of the total energy sales, 47 percent comes from the residential consumers, 9 percent from commercial and industrial and 24 percent from public buildings, steets and highways," Montelibano added.
He lamented that the net loss for the year increased by 72 percent because of the decrease in energy sales, increase in depreciation, transmission and distribution expenses.
Meanwhile, last Saturday, Board of Directors Pepito Malapitan of District 2 and Zenaida Lacson of District III was sworn in officially by Presidential Deputy Spokesman Anthony Golez who also officiated the oathtaking ceremony of the 863 members-consumers of Ceneco.
