Iloilo Liga president survives car crash
Ex-Officio Board Member Jeneda Salcedo, president of the Iloilo Liga ng mga Barangay survived a car crash in Bukidnon Thursday.
She was pinned in the frontseat and trapped in the wreckage of a Nissan Urvan vehicle as responding rescuers and emergency medical team worked for nearly 30 minutes to free her.
The incident occurred just about midnight along the treacherous national highway of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Salcedo was with her staff in the said vehicle when it rammed into an illegally-parked 10-wheeler truck with no Early Warning Device (EWD).
No other injuries were reported as Salcedo was rushed to Malaybalay Bukidnon Provincial Hospital for immediate treatment. The News Today (TNT) learned that Salcedo was eventually transferred though to privately-run Bethel Baptist Hospital for further examination.
X-Ray and corresponding tests showed her to have suffered abrasions, a tear to a ligament with hematoma yet fortunately, her injuries did not require surgery. Attending physicians also ruled out any fracture.
The lady Liga president was eventually transferred to Davao City where she was confined for three days at the Davao Doctors Hospital. She got back here in Iloilo yesterday to fully recuperate from the crash injuries.
To note, Salcedo left for Cagayan de Oro Wednesday to facilitate the transfer of Iloilo Liga delegates set to attend the convention in Davao City.
She decided to personally assist the Iloilo group and help assuage discomfort of the delegates following the delay of the departure from Iloilo City.
Upon arrival in Cagayan de Oro, she apparently worked on getting all the delegates on board the buses that will take them to a four-hour land trip to Davao City.
Salcedo and her staff were the last to leave Cagayan de Oro and met the accident along the way.
