River revival highlights Earth Day in Capiz
ROXAS CITY – A tree planting activity has been set by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on April 24 along the riverbank of Panit-an town.
The activity dubbed River Revival is in line with country’s weeklong observance of Earth Day from April 19 to 25 with the theme “Earth Survival: Climate Change Solutions.”
River Revival aims to prevent erosion of soil along the riverbanks particularly in Barangays Salocon and Poblacion Ilawod in Panit-an.
It will be participated in by the Panit-an municipal government, barangay councils of Salocon and Poblacion Ilawod, Metro Roxas Water District (MRWD), military reservists and PENRO personnel, among others.
At the national level, the Earth Day activities are being spearheaded by the Presidential Task Force on Climate Change (PTFCC) and Office of the Presidential Adviser on Global Warming and Climate Change (OPACC).
The country’s Earth Day kicked off with the launching of “Carbon Cutting Coalition” by President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo in Quezon City.
The coalition is a multi-sectoral initiative to find concrete solutions and implement programs to mitigate the worst impacts of global warming and climate change. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
