Cash subsidies, new houses await Valderrama indigents
President Macapagal-Arroyo will visit the town of Valderrama in Antique Thursday to hand out cash subsidies to indigent families and to inaugurate a government housing project in villages severely affected by last year's typhoon Frank.
The President is expected to arrive in Barangay Boroc-Boroc in Valderrama, north of the capital town of San Jose, around 10 a.m.
Ms Arroyo will distribute cash grants amounting to P1.213 million to 522 families under the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The program, implemented starting last year, aims to uplift the health, nutrition and education conditions of poor families especially children aged 0-14 years old.
The beneficiaries include 89 families from Boroc-Boroc, 75 from Barangay Bunsod, 43 from Barangay Cansilayan, 24 from Barangay Lublub, 128 from Barangay Manlacbo and 163 families from Barangay Pandanan.
During her visit, the President will also distribute certificates of occupancy to 89 beneficiaries of the P4.450 million housing project under the DSWD's Shelter Assistance Program.
Two barangays in Valderrama, including Boroc-Boroc were washed out during last year's Typhoon Frank.
The shelter assistance amounted to P50,000 per beneficiary whose houses were destroyed and were willing to be relocated. Around 131 families received P10,000 each under the Emergency Shelter Assistance Program.
