P15M gov't land survey takes off on 4 WV towns
Four Western Visayas towns are out to have a new list of new landowners with new land titles – literally speaking. Further still, the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of these towns will also have significant changes alongside expected increase in local real property taxes.
This, as the region takes off on a P15 million land survey funded by the national government through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The program formed part of “Handog Titulo Program” of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo with the DENR Regional Office 6 here at the lead of the Westen Visayas implementation. Cadastral results will take a full year to be consolidated.
Since its February launching, local efforts took off with the town of Maasin in Iloilo province included in the shortlist. Other Western Visayas towns included the town of Anini-y in the province of Antique, the town of Tangalan in Aklan and Tapaz in the province of Capiz.
To note, the President’s program is directed at a nationwide titling campaign aimed at providing security of tenure particularly those in the countryside.
With this, the government is providing opportunity to longtime occupants of untitled lands. Maasin bagged the coveted slot and became Iloilo’s beneficiary town as similar local programs and land surveys are made throughout the province.
The multi-million land-titling/cadastral survey program, The News Today (TNT) learned began its task of seeking claimants in order to start groundwork for a titling procedure.
Once final list is made and the cadastral survey is approved, listed claimant will be the official occupant and final claimant of the area/property applied for.
It is not going to be a “shortlist” to the current shortlist of towns, the TNT gathered with heirs of these claimants further included in the survey.
