Con-ass
The House of Representatives led by Speaker Prospero Nograles the other day filed a resolution that would convene “members of Congress” as a constituent assembly (con-ass) to amend the Constitution. Apparently, the move intends to bypass the Senate on charter change. The congressmen are all aware that cha-cha is not popular at this time. They are also aware that our country has many other problems that need attention than wasting time and resources for the deliberation on constitutional amendments. Clearly, vested interests are involved in this move—among which is the attempt to make Gloria stay in power. Then they will say that this is what the Filipino people want. Mga kabalan!
MRF
Mayor Jerry Treñas was reported yesterday to have issued an executive order directing all barangay officials to establish material recovery facility (MRF) in their respective barangays for waste segregation. The establishment of MRF has long been encouraged as contained in the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. But it seems barangay officials don't give a damn. Maybe stringent measures should be imposed by the executive to pressure the barangay officials into doing their job. Kon trabaho gani mahinay pero kon kwarta gani madasig.
Hold-up incidents rampant
Hold-up incidents in downtown Iloilo City especially at night have become rampant. Robbers are not afraid to do their thing even inside passenger jeepneys. The latest victim was a guy working at a coffee shop. He was about to go home after his work when his fellow passengers inside a jeepney declared a hold-up. The robbers carted away his cellular phone and wallet. Fortunately, he was not hurt. It appears Iloilo City is no longer safe at night. It's high time that our police should intensify their patrol operations especially late at night to discourage the bad elements from pursuing their evil plans.
