Napocor conducts probe on Visayas blackout
State-owed National Power Corporation (Napocor) said they are still conducting investigation to determine the real cause of the blackout that hit the Visayas grid Saturday.
In a statement, the Napocor said that as of 5:18 pm of Saturday, most affected areas were already 100 percent energized, with total power supply having been restored to the grid.
Meanwhile, restoration efforts are being undertaken in areas still affected by the blackout.
“We would like to assure all our customers and electricity consumers in the area that we are doing our best to restore power in the fastest possible manner. We are in close coordination with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to facilitate this,” Napocor said.
Initial information from the Grid Management Committee (GMC) revealed that power generation units from the Leyte Geothermal Power Plant (LGPP) and those operated by the PNOC-Energy Development Corporation (PNOC-EDC) tripped at 9:38 am, following a transmission line tripping at Tabango on the Leyte side.
Restoration efforts were immediately undertaken by Napocor and the NGCP.
As of late afternoon, Cebu was already 100 percent energized, followed by Bohol, Samar and Leyte also at 100 percent.
While Negros and Panay are already 65 percent and 40 percent energized, respectively.
Likewise, the Negros–Panay submarine cable was synchronized at 5:18 pm.
“We hope to be able to complete the energization of all areas affected by the blackout in the soonest possible time. National Power and the NGCP are closely coordinating to make sure that this is achieved,” Napocor said. (PNA)
