City holds meetings to assess no segregation, no collection policy
BACOLOD CITY -- The Bacolod City Government is presently holding a series of meetings with the 61 barangays to assess the implementation of the "no segregation, no collection" policy.
The policy, that took effect last April 1, is in line with the strengthened implementation of the Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act which calls for, among others, the segregation of solid wastes according to its classification i.e. compostable, recyclable, residual and special.
The series of meetings started April 27 and will run until May 15. It is aimed at identifying the problems encountered by the respective barangays and the possible solutions.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia himself ordered the regular assessment of the solid waste management implementation to ensure that the no segregation, no collection policy is being carried out properly and that violators are sanctioned.
Leonardia also recognized the efforts of the barangay leaders who were implementing the solid waste management program effectively.
He reiterated that an effective solid waste management program is not the sole responsibility of the city government but also entails the active involvement of each and every individual.
