Capiz athletes shine in National PRISAA Games 2009
ROXAS CITY – Fourteen qualified athletes representing Capiz Private Schools Association (CAPRISA) made it to the National PRISAA Games held at Metro Naga Sports Complex, Naga City, Camarines Sur in Bicol Region last April 20-26, 2009.
CAPRISA Athletes include Florence Caro, Sharjun Delgado, Jioly Barquillo, Ann Suzette Bermejo, Jerlyn Bornales, Janette Delfin, Hanny Jean Delfin, Jenelyn Progio, Riza Joy Artates and Ma. Antonette Tibor representing Athletics event; Josette Aguilar, Jessie James Salgado and Vincent Lacuesta for Taekwondo event, and Chino Barrios for Table Tennis event.
Around 350 colleges and universities coming from 17 regions of the country with more than 4,000 athletes, coaches and officials attended the weeklong national sports event. Fifteen sports events were competed in this year’s biggest and most prestigious collegiate sports competition in the Philippines, as follows: Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Chess, Dance Sports, Football, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Taekwondo, Karatedo, Sepak Takraw, Softball, Swimming, and Volleyball; with Mutya ng PRISAA and Vocal Solo for the socio-cultural competition. Host Bicol Region highlighted Boxing event as a demo sports through the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) for inclusion in the future PRISAA competition.
CAPRISA Athletics Women’s team won the Over-all Champion during the WVPRISAA Meet 2009 in Antique last February 4-7, 2009 which brought them in the spotlight for winning again medals in the National Games.
CAPRISA Gold Medalists in the National PRISAA Games were: Chino Barrios (Table Tennis, Men’s Team Event), Jenelyn Progio (100 meter hurdles, Athletics), Jerlyn Bornales (1,500 meter run, Athletics), Hanny Jean Delfin (5,000 meter run, Athletics), Hanny Jean Delfin, Janette Delfin, Jerlyn Bornales, Allen Grace Salas (4 x 800 meter relay, Athletics).
Silver medalists were: Chino Barrios (Table Tennis, Means’ Doubles), Jessie James Salgado (Welter Weight, Taekwondo), Jerlyn Bornales (800 meter run, Athletics), Classical Relay composed of Riza Joy Artates, Jenelyn Progio, Carolyn Catalan and Marivic Banate, 4 x 400 meter relay composed of Aileen Grace Salas, Marivic Banate, Jenelyn Progio and Jerlyn Bornales.
The Region 6 Table Tennis Team of Chino Barrios bagged 2nd place in Table Tennis Mean’s Doubles while earning the championship title in Table Tennis Men’s Team event. Chino Barrios, a consistent table tennis national player, hails from Filamer Christian College taking Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. On the other hand, Jessie James Salgado grabbed the 2nd place in Taekwondo, Welter Weight Men’s Category. He hails also from Filamer Christian College as a first year BS-Criminology student.
