Gov the broker?
Whether Gov. Niel gave money or not to Ileco 3 president former judge Mateo Baldoza during a meeting at the former's mansion in Jaro, it is still beyond reason why he brokered a meeting with the Ileco 3 board of directors and executives of independent power producer Artech. It appears the governor is meddling with the affairs of Ileco 3 which, clearly, is not part of his job. “Ano gid ang interes ni Gob sa Artech nga sagad gid sya patunga man?” hollered a Capitol employee who asked for anonymity.
Costly Ileco 3 power seen
Power consumers in the towns of Anilao, Banate, Barotac Viejo, San Rafael, Lemery, Ajuy, Concepcion, Sara, San Dionisio, Batad, Estancia, Balasan and Carles which are under Ileco 3 should expect a power rate reaching to about P12 per kilowatt hour just like here in Iloilo City in case the power supply agreement with Artech pushes through. Reportedly, Artech previously supplied power to the Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) but the latter did not renew their contract because of high cost. Kon matabo kaluluoy gid ang mga pumuluyo sang terser distrito.
Serious campaign needed
Mayor Jerry Treñas has come up with radio announcements calling on people in the barangays to help and cooperate in the implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 which calls for waste segregation. This campaign on waste segregation has long been started in the city but has no effect. Apparently, barangay officials are not doing their share in making this campaign successful. Still we see no MRF installed in the barangays. We can also see unsegregated garbage thrown in the barangay dumping area. Worst, there are people who dispose of garbage outside of the alloted time of collection, thus leaving the garbage uncollected until the next day. Maybe, the city government should be more serious in implementing this waste segregation this time.
