Capiz dads urge PGMA to help reduce power rate
ROXAS CITY – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on its regular session yesterday unanimously approved a resolution requesting President Gloria Magapagal-Arroyo to intercede in behalf of the people of Western Visayas to reduce the power rate which increased last month.
The resolution was authored by Board Member Baden Cantiller, chair of committee on transportation, communication and public utilities, Board Member Gilbert Ardivilla and seconded by Board Member Ricky Martin.
Capizeños have clamored against the recent power rate hike implemented by Capiz Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Capelco) in which their bills almost doubled or increased by 100%.
Last session, Ardivilla moved to invite the Capelco to shed light on their implementation of rate increase by P1.14 per kilowatt hour.
The committee on transportation, communication and public utilities chaired by Cantiller conducted a committee hearing with Engr. Edgar Diaz, general manager of Capelco, as their guest.
Diaz clarified that the Capelco merely passed on the power rate increase to the member-consumers which originated from the Napocor and Transco.
Ardivilla, as co-author of the resolution, suggested to amend the title of the resolution by including the whole Western Visayas (instead of only Capiz as proposed by Cantiller).
