Lastimoso on congressional bid: 'There's no turning back'
TAPAZ, Capiz — “There's no turning back,” former PNP Chief and now Manila Rail Transit (MRT) Manager Gen. Roberto “Bobby” Lastimoso said of his intention to run for congressman in next year's election.
“I don’t have any spokesman to speak in my behalf that I will not pursue my intention to run as congressman in the second district of Capiz,” Lastimoso said in a press conference held in this town on Sunday.
According to him, he wanted to serve his fellow Capizeños if given a chance in 2010 election in the second district of Capiz.
Earlier, rumors spread that Lastimoso opted to settle down for mayor in Mambusao instead of throwing his hot in the congressional race.
It was learned that a big banner was placed at his newly finished headquarters in Dao,Capiz marked with “No retreat no surrender”.
Earlier, Lastimoso announced his intention to oppose last termer Cong. Fredenil Castro’s wife Mrs. Jane Tan-Castro in the 2010 polls.
He said that he already has a complete slate in the 2nd district however, he refused to name names.
Lastimoso, Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr., businessman Roberto “Nonong” Palomar and other political leaders went to Tapaz last Sunday for a meeting regarding their political strategy and inaugurated the satellite office of the governor located near the town plaza.
Palomar, who also announced his intention to oppose his second cousin Tapaz Mayor Rosemarie Gardose, said the satellite office of the provincial governor will cater the needs of the people in Tapaz and will directly implement some projects of the provincial government intended for his town.
Palomar also accused the Gardose administration for refusing some projects like birthing place implemented by the provincial government intended for Tapaz town for the people.
The businessman also said that he also has a complete line-up as his running mate against Gardose in 2010 election.
Meanwhile, Gardose was not reached for comment regarding the allegation of his second cousin Palomar.
Last month, Gardose and Palomar were at odds when the former was about to confiscate bancas used by the latter for banca race however, the said sports competition was pushed through despite opposition from the mayor.
