NOPPO's 'Oplan Paglalansag' nets 46 loose guns
In line with the Philippine National Police's thrust of ensuring an orderly and peaceful conduct of national and local elections one year from now, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) has stepped up its campaign against loose firearms in the province.
Only last Sunday, two more loose guns were recovered by the San Carlos City Police Station bringing the total seizure to 40 low-powered and six high-powered firearms since January 1 of this year.
Police Chief Inspector Rico Santotome Jr, NOPPO spokesman, said that the aggressive drive against loose firearms in Negros Occidental by the PNP is in relation to the "Oplan Paglalansag" program of the National Headquarters.
The operation in San Carlos City, however, failed to arrest the suspects identified as one alias "Pluto" and Danny Ruel, both residents of Barangay Guadalupe in the city.
According to Police Superintendent Harold Tuzon, chief of the local police, both suspects managed to evade the raiding team after sensing the arrival of elements of San Carlos City PNP.
However, both suspects, who are at-large, are still facing charge for violation of Republic Act 8294 for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in court.
