3ID forms new army battalion for Panay
A new army battalion will be formed in Western Visayas before the year ends.
This was learned from newly appointed Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Lt. Gen. Victor Ibrado who visited the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) headquarters at Camp Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz recently.
The 82nd Infantry Battalion, activated effective May 1 2009, is currently being organized and the personnel fill-up will be sourced from the existing Division Reconnaissance Units (DRCs) and other subordinate units of the 3ID.
This new battalion is projected to be based in Panay Island.
3ID in a press release said the Command is still in the process of selecting the Battalion Commander of the 82IB.
Subsequently, the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division based in Central Luzon is organizing the 81st Infantry Battalion.
Major Gen. Vicente M. Porto, Commander of the 3ID, says the 82IB which will be operationally ready in the next few months will add a “significant edge to our internal security operations in the Visayas.”
