Preparations for Disaster Consciousness Month celebration underway
The National Disaster Consciousness Month celebration is still about two months away, but the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) 6 here is already preparing for it.
Office of Civil Defense Regional Director Rosario Cabrera, RDCC 6 vice chair, said that the activities for the National Disaster Consciousness Month in July were discussed last Tuesday's meeting.
Cabrera said that among the highlights of the activities are the Regional Rescue Olympics and Camp Evacuation Management Competition which will be participated in by the different local government units (LGUs) to showcase their capabilities.
“We are inviting the different LGUs to participate in this activity for it would also be a venue for them to be able to enhance their search and rescue operations,” she said.
Cabrera said that the Department of Education Regional Office has also signified its plan to hold earthquake drills in the different public schools in Western Visayas to make the students aware of the importance of disaster preparedness.
In Bacolod City, a citywide earthquake drill will also be conducted.
“We will also continue the information, education and communication campaigns and the conduct of disaster management trainings,” Cabrera said. (PNA)
