Bing belies P14M grant from Spanish gov't
BACOLOD CITY -- Mayor Evelio Leonardia denied yesterday the allegation of some quarters and other political groups that his administration received P14 million grant from the Spanish government for the detailed research and study on the solid waste management program.
Leonardia said that it is misleading to say that his administration received the cash assistance because the Spanish government chooses where they could put up a study for the landfill.
"We should have been thankful because the Spanish government selected Bacolod City as a pilot city for this program," Leonardia said.
He reiterated that it was the Spanish government that hired a private contractor and not the city of Bacolod.
Leonardia said that the only role of the city is to accept the findings of the Spanish government with regard to the project.
"That is a lot of non-sense for a person to say where is the P14 millions," Leonardia lamented.
He said yesterday that the findings for this study was not yet completed and the findings will come out soon.
Leonardia believed that the allegation was used to advance the political agenda of his critics by making it appear that his administration spent the amount for some other purpose.
On the other hand, Acting City Legal Officer Atty. Vicente Petierre Jr. said that they will release the material recovery facilities for 50 barangays this week.
Petierre said that this is in line with the No Segregation No Collection program of the city of Bacolod.
