Capiz marks Environment Month
ROXAS CITY – Series of activities have been lined up for this year’s Environment Month celebration in Capiz this June.
Environment and Natural Resources Information Officer Mary Grace Molina said that since June 1, they have started their month-long activities here that will culminate on June 30.
Molina said that coordination with the different agencies and local government units had been done while the launching of this year’s celebration in Capiz, particularly in Timpas, Panitan town with a tree planting signaled the official start of the various activities.
Other activities for the event include the Brigada Ahensya, office food festival, symposium on climate change, Gender and Development (GAD) potting session, tree planting in Roxas City, eco-tour, sportsfest as well as patent issuance.
Molina said that on June 30 which is the culmination of the month-long environment celebration, the DENR here is set to distribute 20 titles for the qualified farmer beneficiaries.
She explained that the patent issuance is part of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Handog Titulo Program.
Meanwhile, DENR Secretary Lito Atienza is urging the public to take active part in various environmental protection activities.
Atienza said that a simple individual’s effort that could contribute to the government’s efforts to mitigate climate change is by taking part in waste recycling and clean-up campaigns as well as tree planting and other reforestation activities.
