Amnesty International Report 2009 launching set
BACOLOD CITY -- Bacolod Social Action Center Director Rev. Fr. Aniceto A. Buenafe Jr. confirmed yesterday that on June 15, 2009 the Amnesty International, Philippine Section (AIPh) will launch Amnesty International Report 2009 (AIR 2009) during a Media Forum at the Conference Hall of the Bishop's House, Rizal Street, Bacolod City from 10:00 - 12 noon.
According to Fr. Buenafe the highlights of the discussion for the Amnesty International Report for 2009 will be on poverty as brought about by the economic crisis and its effects on human rights.
"The economic crisis is also a human rights crisis contrary to what others say and believe. The report shows an increased poverty incidence worldwide, and that billions of people are suffering from insecurity, injustice and indignity. It will also discuss the state of human rights in the Philippine setting," Buenafe said.
Buenafe send out yesterday an Invitation Letter to The News Today informing that the report also becomes a take off point for us to Launch Demand Dignity Campaign which Amnesty International, Philippine Section (AIPh) National Secretariat has been doing since June 1, 2009.
"Please come, attend and hear the message on the state of human rights in the world and in the country today. With knowledge comes power and with power comes resolve to exist among us to do what we can to help in whatever capacity we can do," Buenafe said as he appealed to all stakeholders to support the launching of AIR 2009 Report.
Buenafe further stressed that on June 16, 2009, AIPh will have a Basic Orientation Seminar (BOS) on Amnesty International, Al Philippines, Human Rights Education, and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR).
