Treñas dares anti-smoking TF members to resign
The city mayor here has dared members of the anti-smoking task force headed by city councilor Julienne Baronda to resign if they cannot do their job well.
This was the reaction of City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas to reports that he is the top violator of a city ordinance on anti-smoking in public places.
The mayor has challenged the task force to do their job since the task force is funded by the city government.
Baronda reportedly could not move on with her work as head of the task force since most of top violators are also connected with the city government.
The task force was rejuvenated and mobilized some four years ago but Baronda has not reported any action or performance to date, Treñas said.
The city mayor stressed that he doesn’t want to be a scapegoat or reason for the task force not to move on with its mandate. He said he refused to be dragged in the non-performing task force.
He added that he is on his last term as city mayor and wanted a clean slate when he moves out of office in 2010. (PNA)
