17 year old Bacoleña positive of A(H1N1) virus
BACOLOD CITY -- A 17 year-old Bacoleña who happened to be a student of De La Salle University - Taft Avenue in Metro Manila was found positive of A(H1N1) virus.
Vice-Mayor Jude Thaddues Sayson of Bacolod Task Force Swine Flu said it was confirmed by no less than City Health Officer Dr. Salome Biñas, declaring that this is the first case of Influenza A(H1N1) in the city and province of Negros Occidental.
As per investigation, the student came home to Bacolod last June 6 or 7 after the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) announced the postponement of the opening of classes for the tertiary level to June 15 because of the rising cases of A(H1N1) flu in the country.
Sayson said the lady after experiencing fever was confined to a hospital in Manila but was later discharged.
A laboratory test from Research Institute of Tropical Medicine revealed that she is positive of the virus after examination of the specimen conducted during her confinement in Manila reason why she was brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) for proper medication.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Luisa Efren said the patient no longer has fever but is still coughing.
Efren said the girl always wear mask since she was hospitalized in Manila.
“Proper medicine has been given to her and she will undergo an x-ray” Efren added
Meanwhile, a 7-year old girl who just came from Guam, USA is also under observation for having a fever.
The Indian national, on the other hand, who was isolated at the CLMMRH few days ago was found negative after the result was released by RITM.
Meanwhile, the city's Swine Flu task force is scheduled to meet with the hotels and restaurant owners to further discuss the precautionary measures on A(H1N1).
