Atienza donates 10-ft. Phil. Flag to Bacolod City
BACOLOD CITY -- Mayor Evelio Leonardia accepted yesterday the Philippine Flag donated by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Lito Atienza to the City Government, particularly for the New Government Center.
The Philippine flag, measuring 10 feet by 20 feet, is said to be the biggest flag in the whole Negros Occidental.
Leonardia expressed gratitude to Atienza saying it is a great honor and a privilege for the people of Bacolod to have received such an important gift from the DENR Secretary.
Atienza made true his promise to Leonardia of donating a Philippine flag for the New Government Center during his recent visit to the city when he accompanied President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the Regional Development Council awarding ceremonies.
Leonardia quoted the DENR Secretary as saying that a beautiful edifice such as the NGC deserves a new and bigger Philippine flag.
The Philippine flag was turned over to the City Government in a simple ceremony by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Jesse Vego and City Environment and Natural Resources officer Joan Gerangaya, representing Atienza, in the presence of Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and Councilors Homer Bais, Dindo Ramos, Celia Flor, Napoleon Cordova and Wilson Gamboa, Jr.
The environment officers also turned over to the City Government a giant tarpaulin, also given by Atienza, to be used for the 111thIndependence Day celebration.
