Castro: RP still not totally independent
SAPIAN, Capiz – Mrs. Jane Tan-Castro, wife of 2nd District Cong. Fredenil Castro, said that the country is not yet totally independent as it is still dominated by other countries in terms of businesses, monetary funds and other interests.
This was said by Mrs. Castro during the celebration of the 111th Independence Day in Sapian town Plaza on Friday, June 12.
According to her, it is sad to note that until now comfort women who were victims of Japanese soldiers and other atrocities made by foreigners are still crying for justice.
However, She said that there is an opposite notion before and today, she said that before, once Japanese people is around, parents warned their daughters to hide but now, parents advise their daughters to show up when the Japanese are around.
Mayor Arturo Orosco, Sr. Ph.D, said that this year’s theme of the celebration: “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan tungo sa tunay na Kaunlaran” reminds us of the braveness of our heroes during the Spanish era.
Orosco, assisted by his wife Mrs. Evangeline Oñas-Orosco, led the parade from the white house going to the town plaza where people from all walks of life attended the celebration.
Present during the celebration were: Vice Mayor Ralp Odrunia, Former City Councilor Mark Ortiz, Sannggunian Bayan Members, barangay captains, teacher and students, among others.
Meanwhile, thousands of people to include public officials, government employees and students attended the parade in Roxas City to celebrate the 111th Independence Day.
