2 killed, 2 wounded in fish port rumble
ROXAS CITY – Two crew members of a fishing boat were killed while two others were wounded when they engaged in a rumble and free-for-all fight the other night at Libas Fishing Port here.
The fatalities were identified as Roberto Garcia, 29, of Cadiz City and Arnold Mahilum, all are crew members of a fishing boat.
Garcia sustained two stab wounds on the different parts of his bod while Mahilum suffered gunshot wound on his head inflicted by a 12-gauge shotgun.
They were rushed to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) but declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Wounded were also identified as Boy Rio Palma a.k.a Boy Muslim, 43, of Bacolod City and Ernesto de la Cruz, 21, of Estancia, Iloilo. Palma sustained gunshot wounds on his thigh and right ankle while De la Cruz sustained stab wounds. They were rushed to the RMPH for medical treatment and later, Palma was transferred to the Capiz Emmanuel Hospital.
Initial investigation conducted by the police revealed that at around 7 p.m. on June 15, De la Cruz and Boy Rio Deveno were involved in a fist fight however, they were pacified and settled by security guard, Maritime Police and Roxas City police who are on duty at the said fishing port.
Deveno, who is not contented with the settlement, together with friends Mahilum and a certain Jessie attacked Garcia and De la Cruz who were sleeping at the other fishing boat at around 11 p.m.
De la Cruz and Garcia awakened, while Deveno, armed with a knife stabbed De la Cruz hitting him but he (De la Cruz) was able to jump off leaving Garcia at the fishing boat.
According to the police, Garcia was stabbed by Deveno to death and when the Security Guard Ronil Develos saw the incident, the latter shot Deveno with his 12-gauge shot gun.
Develos also shot Palma prompting a certain Jessie to escape.
