Environment Week launched in Kabankalan
The Environment Week Celebration was launched in Kabankalan City on June 15 with a program sponsored by Department of Education at the city plaza.
Attended by the city officials, teachers, students and pupils from the different public and private schools in Kabankalan, the program started with an opening remarks from Dr. Elisa Broñola, CESO VI, schools division superintendent. SP member Jeorge Largado, chairman, committee on environment, natural resources and Ecology and Indigenous peoples and executive chairman of the 9th city environment week celebration Mayor Pedro Zayco, Jr. were the inspirational speakers.
Mayor Zayco said one top priority of his administration is to provide more teachers and school buildings some of them were already finished in far-flung barangays of the city. He said that the old Gabaldon building at ERAMS-West, now a landmark in Kabankalan, is now being restored to its original design. This building will be fully aircon and to be used as a conference hall and offices of DepEd.
The Temple Ace Academy, KCCC, Fortress College and ERAM-East each presented a dance number to entertain the crowd. Elena Olvido, asst. schools division superintendent gave the closing remarks.
After the program, DepEd school heads led by Dr. Broñola proceeded to the Bay Watch, a 60- hectare mangrove in Brgy. Daan Banua for a tree planting activity. (Eddie M. Yap)
