Guard in fish port shooting airs surrender feeler
ROXAS CITY – A security guard, who shot dead a crew member of a fishing boat during a rumble, will voluntarily surrender to face the murder charge filed in court by the family of the victim.
Libas Bgry. Captain Alisasis said in a radio interview that security guard Ramil Develos (not Ronel as earlier reported) has sent surrender feeler in his office.
According to Alisasis, Develos allegedly shot Arnold Mahilum in defense of himself.
On Monday night two crew members of a fishing boat were killed, while two others were wounded, when they engaged in a ramble and free-for-all fight at Libas Fishing Port here.
The fatalities were identified as Roberto Garcia, 29, of Cadiz City and Mahilum, all are crew members of the fishing boat.
Garcia sustained two stab wounds on different parts of his body while Mahilum suffered gunshot wounds on his head inflicted by a 12-gauge shotgun.
They were rushed to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital but declared dead on arrival by physicians.
Those wounded were identified as Boy Rio Palma a.k.a Boy Muslim, 43, of Bacolod City and Ernesto de la Cruz, 21, of Estancia, Iloilo. Palma sustained gunshot wounds on his thigh and right ankle while De la Cruz sustained stab wounds.
Initial investigation conducted by the police revealed that at around 7:00 p.m. on June 15, De la Cruz and Boy Rio Deveno were engaged in a fist fight however, they were pacified and settled by security guard, Maritime Police and Roxas City police who are on duty at the said fishing port.
However, Deveno, who was not contented with the settlement, together with companions Mahilum and a certain Jessie attacked Garcia and De la Cruz who were sleeping at the other fishing boat around 11:00 p.m.
De la Cruz and Garcia awakened, while Deveno, who was armed with a knife stabbed De la Cruz hitting him but he (De la Cruz) was able to jump off leaving Garcia at the fishing boat.
According to the police, Garcia was also stabbed by Deveno to death and when security guard Ramil Develos saw the incident, the latter shot Deveno with his 12-gauge shot gun.
Develos also shot Palma prompting a certain to Jessie escape. Develos and a certain Jessie are still at-large while Palma who was wounded was out-patient and is currently detained at the lock-up cell of Roxas City PNP Station.
