A(H1N1) scare hits Iloilo as new case confirmed in Capiz
Elementary and high school students in at least three major private schools in Iloilo City are required to bring masks, hand sanitizers and alcohol starting today.
A precautionary measure of school officials, the requirements came after the confirmation of the first Iloilo City-based A(H1N1) victim from Jaro District
In another university, one class of about 21 college students were ordered yesterday to stay put in their respective homes and boarding houses and to strictly observe “self-quarantine.” This, following concerns of possible exposure to the victim confined at an undisclosed room of the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao District.
Meantime, contact tracing continues with the team from the Iloilo City Health Office making the rounds on persons believed to have been exposed as well to the 38 year-old returning Ilonggo seaman found A(H1N1) positive.
Such, as no official word was released as of press time yesterday on the fate of five others whose swab samples sent to Manila have yet to yield results.
In Roxas City, a separate confirmation was made by Dr. Jarvis Punzalan of the Provincial Health Office here. Along with Capiz Governor Victor Tanco Sr., the first A(H1N1) case was made public in a press conference minutes after word came in that swab samples taken from a Capiznon came back positive.
The Roxas City victim is also a 38 year-old Overseas Filipino Worker who returned from Singapore bearing flu-like symptoms. Said OFW who is a native of Tapaz, Capiz, arrived in the Philippines last June 6th and manifested flu-like symptoms three days thereafter.
Now quarantined and under hospital care, contact tracing likewise began.
The Capiz case bring to a total of five the A(H1N1) positive individuals in the Western Visayas region.
