DAR-Aklan credits stakeholders for CARPER
The Department of Agrarian Reform in Aklan led by Atty Daniel Y. Martelino acknowledges the unified effort of all stakeholders of the Comprehensive Agrarian reform Program in Aklan for the passing of the CARP Extension with Reform Bill which was approved by both Senate and Congress in time for the 21st anniversary of CARP.
PARO Martelino claimed that the 20,000 signatures of farmers and other sectors in Aklan launched through a signature campaign asking lawmakers to fast track the extension of CARP is one factor that raised people’s awareness of the importance of the program. The Church sector through His Excellency Bishop Jose Romeo O. Lazo, D.D. elevated their concern of the importance of CARP and maximum participation of the farmers in this program. The sustained vote and support of Congressman Florencio T. Miraflores of the lone district of Aklan , and the open endorsement and approval of Governor Carlito Marquez plus the passing of the Aklan’s Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution 2008-106 urgently appealing to Congress to extend CARP after 2008 also contributed to the cause of CARPER. Other groups such as the Philippine Councilors League-Aklan Chapter, the Liga ng Mga Barangay, and various municipalities in Aklan presented their resolutions in support of CARP extension.
He further expressed his appreciation to the Provincial Agrarian Reform Coordinating Committee (PARCCOM) of Aklan for its painstaking effort to reach out to other sectors to extend CARP.
“Truly, Atty Martelino noted that only through sustained and unified effort can our farmers’ cause be realized.
