City university orders ‘no mask no entry’ to studes
College students and members of the faculty of one major university here have been ordered to protect themselves from possible infection of Influenza A(H1N1) virus.
As such, security personnel manning all entry points to the school made sure starting yesterday that each incoming student or teacher had masks on and a bottle of hand sanitizer or alcohol.
While not totally the guaranteed way out of A(H1N1), students welcomed the masks and hand sanitizers as a precaution. One group of students reached by The News Today (TNT) said, as it is they felt “ better and safer.”
“We do not want to be infected at the same time serve as carriers so even if we look funny with masks on, it is perfectly okay… this is really helping us feel safer,” the chosen group “spokesperson” said.
Meantime, health officials both from the city and regional Department of Health (DOH) welcomed clean-up efforts of the Assumption Iloilo administration.
Dr. Urminico Baronda, City Health Officer (CHO) and DOH’s Dr. Glen Alonsabe in radio interviews similarly said yesterday that all is going well with Assumption Iloilo’s handling of the A(H1N1) positive case here.
Total clean-up is underway, both gathered alongside contact tracing particularly on nine students who are dormmates of the affected teener.
The DOH in a latest update reported that 464 patients have fully recovered representing 77% of the total confirmed cases in the country.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque in a continuing media update said there are 131 more confirmed cases, “all mild in nature.”
“These new additional cases bring the sum of confirmed A(H1N1) cases to 604,” the Secretary said. “The new cases involved 66 females and 65 males. The age range of these cases is 2-67 years old, with 16 as median age. One hundred seventeen (117) of these cases are Filipinos, the remaining 14 are foreigners. Nineteen (19) of said cases have a history of travel to a country affected with the novel virus.”
And the general advisory too as reiterated by Secretary Duque – “the safest way to avoid getting the flu are through thorough hand washing and covering the mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing.“
