Iloilo City eyes premier city status
Iloilo City is gearing up to be the country's premier city by 2015.
Public and private stakeholders here are undertaking consultations to generate data for a 10-year (2009-2020) comprehensive land use plan (CLUP) which Iloilo City will use to realize such goal.
CLUP is a tool for managing an area's future growth and development to improve quality of life there.
Land uses under a CLUP include those for residential, educational, industrial, institutional and recreational purposes.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas supports the consultations particularly since authorities must update Iloilo City’s 1998-2010 CLUP to be aligned with present and projected development there.
Last Thursday, representatives from government agencies, the academe, the youth and private sectors, the business community, non-government organizations and the church met at Sarabia Manor Hotel to join the second planning workshop on the matter.
Authorities held on Feb. 5 the first of such workshops.
Urban planner Felino Palafox Jr. shared with workshop participants his inputs for updating Iloilo City’s CLUP.
Stakeholders concerned also sought suggestions of urban planners from Guimaras province and the city’s neighboring municipalities as development in one affects the others. (PNA)
