City now hiring police auxiliary
The city government is now hiring the services of 100 police auxiliaries after Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the supplemental budget containing millions of pesos for the purpose. Police auxiliaries will act as a multiplier force to the present number of policemen in the city.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the applicants can submit their applications to Arturo Dicen, his Executive Assistant for Peace and Order. Dicen chairs the selection board in the hiring of police auxiliaries. The deadline for the filing of applications is on July 15, 2009.
Trenas said the applicant must be a graduate of a criminology course, or a graduate of any Bachelor course, has 72 units in the criminology course or has earned 72 units in other bachelor courses.
The plan in hiring police auxiliaries was conceptualized by Iloilo City Police Office chief Senior Supt. Melvin Moncal after he assumed as the city police director. The hiring of police auxiliaries as multiplier force is patterned in Manila. Once hired, a police auxiliary will receive a salary of P6,000 with benefits from GSIS and Phil Health. Police auxiliary will be hired in contractual basis.
Treñas said the applicant must a Filipino citizen, has a good moral character, no derogatory record, no pending cases not convicted of any crime, has no case involving moral turpitude, no cases on illegal drugs, illegal possession of firearms, not committed crime against women and children and human right violations.
Names of the applicants who are qualified for the written exam will be posted at the city hall on July 17. The exam is set on July 21 and 22 at the Iloilo City Police Office.Applicants who have already submitted their applications before yesterday’s announcement of the chief executive must complete the requirements and submit it to his executive assistant. All requirements must be placed in one folder for the scrutiny of the selection board. The requirements include clearances from the barangay, National Bureau of Investigation, regional trial court and drug test result, said Trenas.
The renewal of their contract depends on police auxiliary performance. The city will also provide the police auxiliaries with their uniforms and armed them with an arnis or with a tear. They will undergo arnis training and self-defense training prior to their deployment. The ratio of the deployment is 1:3 or one police with three police auxiliaries. The 100 police auxiliaries will be deployed in the different districts.
The hiring of police auxiliaries is the city’s assistance to the city police in fighting the increasing number of crimes committed on the street. The present number of policemen in the city is not an ideal ratio of a policeman to the number of people. The hiring of police auxiliaries will also serve as training ground for the future hiring in the police service. It will be an opportunity for them to practice what they have learned in the university.
