Youth avails free computer lessons
BACOLOD CITY – 204 more youths and adults from the 3rd District of the province are now availing free lessons on computer usage.
The project according to Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, president of the Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation, is under the Foundation’s Cyber Library Computer Literacy Program.
“For three hours each week in the next three months, these trainees have been scheduled to undergo training modules on basic computer operation, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and the Internet,” Benitez added.
The free computer training continues at the Cyber Library in Victorias City where 154 of the 204 beneficiaries alternately come for lessons every day each week starting 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The rest of the 50 trainees report to the Silay City Cyber Library for their scheduled lesson from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The Computer Literacy Program of the foundation in Victorias was started last year, while the Silay scholars are its first batch of trainees.
“Last May 2009, close to 200 students, out-of-school youths, adults, and even several grade school pupils successfully completed a 3-month training and also a two-week seminar-worshop, bringing to more than 400 the total number of graduates of the program,” Benitez added.
The continuing training is among their priority thrusts this year, providing opportunities for all to enhance their skills and be self-sufficient, he stressed.
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) assisted and recognized the Computer Literacy Program of the foundation.
